Where are you working now, what is your role and how did you get here?
I am the Marketing and Communications Manager at Indellient. Out of school, I worked at an edtech company for five years and decided I needed to explore something different. I moved cities and took the opportunity to build the marketing team here at Indellient. An opportunity I couldn't pass up.
What is your favorite marketing area? (Social, SEO, Sales etc.)?
I really enjoy working with people. Whether it's getting the chance to work on webinars with our current clients or co-marketing campaigns with our partners, I enjoy creating campaigns that deliver high value a result of this collaboration on real stories.
Why do you love marketing?
I love marketing as it's about people - about making connections, relationships and experiences. The marketing fundamentals haven't changed much but the way we connect has and continues to evolve quickly. I like the fast pace and opportunity to explore many different things.
What are your favorite books?
I'm a non-fiction fan which likely has led to my preference for business and self-help type books like How F***ed Up is Your Management, Intercom's Book, Resilience and The Fire Starter Sessions.
What marketing related blogs, magazines etc. do you read to keep your skills up to date?
OpenView, Quuu, Invision, Impact, Think With Google.
What brands do you like or follow on social media and why?
I don't follow too many brands. I tend to like personal brands - people who are experts int their field or just all-stars at telling stories.
How do you find good content?
It's trial and error. I certainly have subscribed to content, only to find out it's...not good. I often go by recommendations from colleagues, peers, people on the public Slack groups I subscribe to or through the recommendations that come through the podcasts I listen to.
How do you get to know your target audience?
Attend conferences to talk to our audience first hand, attend webinars and sign up to newsletters that our audience subscribes to, talk to our clients to understand their work and personal dynamics, review research from groups like Gartner on our target audience's top challenges, LinkedIn Sales Navigator and getting information from Google Analytics and our social media platforms.
What tools do you use for social marketing?
What tools do you use for analytics?
What CRM tools do you use?
What's your #1 advice for people starting to get into marketing?
Talk to people! Whether it's with other people in Slack groups, on Twitter, at local meetups, LinkedIn, just get talking, asking questions and listening. There are so many people doing great things out there.
